Living as a fashion student of Istituto Marangoni Milan is like stepping into a runway or magazine spread—every street corner, café, and metro ride is a source of inspiration. Between intense days at university sketching collections, learning from top professionals, and attending fashion events, life here is fast-paced and creatively charged.

The city itself is a classroom: from the vintage gems in Navigli markets to the boutiques of Brera, Milan teaches style through its contrasts. Student life isn’t just about study—it’s late-night aperitivos with classmates, spontaneous photoshoots in hidden courtyards, and networking over espressos. Challenging, glamorous, and motivating.
From September 2025, Istituto Marangoni Fashion School will move to its new home in Palazzo Turati, Via Meravigli 7, a historic building just steps away from Cordusio station on Milan M1 red metro line. Students will have access to frescoed halls, sculptural details, and a majestic courtyard with granite columns. The new 9,000-square-meter campus will also feature a spectacular panoramic terrace. The Design School will remain in Via Cerva 24. Both campuses are accessible by public transportation and a ten-minute walk from each other; the closest metro stations are San Babila and Cordusio (M1 red line).
Istituto Marangoni has a customised application which makes the school experience easier and entertaining. Students have direct access to a student badge, course timetables, news and events, messaging, social feeds, information. The application can be downloaded on iOS App Store and Google Play Store. They are requested to download the IM Society App to be part of the community and enjoy unique experiences and opportunities. PS Milano has a municipal free indoor and outdoor Wi-Fi connection for all.

Welcome Week is a special opportunity to learn more about Istituto Marangoni. During this week students will be introduced to all the services they can access, as well as all the information they need to study and live in Milan. It will also be an opportunity to meet other students, the community and learn about all the projects and activities organised. Marangoni students have a reserved online platform, One Login, to access their student’s intranet, together with a dedicated App and a personal email account.
Formal Documentation
All non-EU citizens with a study visa for Italy must apply for a student residence permit. The Permit of Stay application requires a photo-copy of the following documents at the post office: Post Office Application; Istituto Marangoni admission confirmation or enrollment certificate; passport personal data and student Visa pages; insurance policy; financial statement; Italian duty stamp; and receipt of payment of €70,46 paid at the Post Office for the Permit of Stay.
The second step involves an appointment at the Immigration Office and collecting the permit of stay. EU Citizens with more than three months of stay must register their residence with the relevant authority. Moreover, please note the Declaration of Presence is required to regularise every foreigner’s stay in Italy — it helps the Italian authorities monitor and register the entry and stay of foreign nationals in Italy.
Accommodation
To help students find their ideal accommodation away from home, Istituto Marangoni Milano has partnered with housing agencies and providers with different solutions according to their needs. By contacting them, students will be able to pick from a wide choice of short and long-term housing options including student residents, long-stay housing agencies and short-stay modern, fully furnished apartments.
Renting an apartment in Italy often involves paperwork. It is crucial to review the lease agreement before signing it to safeguard rights and ensure you’re getting a fair deal. This is why institutes highly recommend seeking assistance from IM partners – they are equipped to guide students through this process. Typically, landlords in Italy request a security deposit equivalent to three months’ rent, along with one month’s rent paid in advance. The lease agreement may include the cost of heating and utilities.
Following the signing of the lease, either the landlord or the tenant must register the contract with the Italian Revenue Agency within 30 days. This registration is mandatory by law, and both the landlord and the tenant are responsible for paying the registration tax, which amounts to 2% of the annual rent. In case a student wishes to terminate the rental contract, they will need to send a formal letter, typically three months before vacating the property.
Health And Well Being
It is recommended that students get private health insurance in their own country before departure. If they have private medical insurance, they must check whether they can extend it to cover their stay in Italy — it is advisable that the insurance policy is validated by the Italian Embassy. Generally speaking, it is advisable to have private health insurance to ensure easy access to treatments and medical consultations.
Istituto Marangoni has partnered with APRIL International, to make students’ life easier through ad-hoc insurance packages for study abroad students. It is a digital health insurance solution to make students’ life easier while studying abroad. With 40 years of experience, the company covers more than 150,000 insured members abroad. The insurance will work with Easy Claim digital App, through which students can submit health insurance claims and find documents of the insurance plan; find the nearest healthcare professional and emergency numbers; and connect with a doctor using tele-consultation.
Psychological well-being can be achieved by maintaining a positive outlook on life by developing effective coping strategies to reduce and manage stress, and through accepting and exploring oneself. For this reason, Istituto Marangoni offers a psychologist to its students with a dedicated counselling desk: mental health is crucial, even more so for students who are far from home.
IM Alumni Community
To foster connections and enhance networking within its local IM Alumni Community, Istituto Marangoni has officially launched the IM Alumni Members Clubs: an international, multicultural community of over 40,000 Istituto Marangoni students and alumni who share their values and skills. The aim of this community is to build an international network getting together current and past students, giving them unlimited access to dedicated services, events, seminars and job opportunities, locally and globally.
