Pierre Burgy, Co-Founder And CEO Of Strapi, In Dinis Guarda YouTube Podcast

Pierre Burgy is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Strapi. Before founding Strapi, Pierre worked as a full-stack developer and front-end developer for several companies. He freelanced as a full-stack developer at Checkout.com in London. He also freelanced for Oui Will in the Greater San Diego region. His broad experience in both front-end and full-stack development helped shape his technical skills and understanding of software engineering, which proved essential in building Strapi.

During the interview, Pierre discusses the community behind Strapi:

“We did build quite a big community, and these people are based all over the world. So they often start using Strapi. They can join the community if they have questions.

They can ask questions on our public Discord. They can also publish issues or put requests on the GitHub repository.

At the major in using SC, they can even develop plugins, for example. That’s really how the community has been built over the years.”

Open-source community

Pierre discusses Strapi’s approach to balancing the needs of the open-source community with the demands of enterprise-grade users:

“We’ve focused on developers. We’ve focused on the community. We focused on building a tool that’s completely free. Many large companies use Strapi in production, and we’re here to support them.

At the end of 2020, we released the Strapi Enterprise Edition. The Strapi Enterprise Edition is an extension of the open-source project.

It comes with additional features around collaboration and compliance. Typically, these features include single sign-on, audit logs with your workflows, content history, and, of course, we offer support.

From an internal point of view, we’ve switched from building a community of individual developers to focusing on these very large enterprises when we released the enterprise edition.

That’s why Strapi Cloud is also very much aligned with the overall Strapi community, because one of the open-source projects made with Strapi in this open-source community is supposed to be in production one day. Strapi Cloud is really a good fit because 100% of the open-source project is made, while the enterprise edition is just for a small fraction of these users.”

Strapi events and conferences

Pierre discusses Strapi’s journey with events and community engagement:

“Before COVID, we organised a lot of meetups, a lot of Strapi meetups all over the world, but of course, everything stopped because of COVID. So we did some events online, and we started doing Strapi Conf. I think the first one was 2021.

Strapi is our annual event where we share a lot of big announcements, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to prioritise all of these announcements ahead of the event and to welcome amazing customers and partners who highlight how they’ve been using Strapi.

The majority of the time, we also have community members who present how they contributed to Strapi, the core of Strapi, or for building plugins.

So this is an event we do every single year, but it was online until this year. So, in May this year, in May 2025, we organised the first in-person Strapi Conf.

It was on the 13th of May, and it was a fantastic event because we finally met this community in person.

Of course, we met some of our customers, some of the community members, some of our partners in person before that event, but it was just kind of one by one. But this time we really met so many people from the community, and it was fantastic to celebrate all of the achievements from the past 10 years.

It was also a fantastic opportunity to make all of these big announcements like Strapi AI, the integration with Shopify, the new visual builder, all these kinds of things in person. And I can tell you that it was so motivating for us as a team that we are signing for the next 10 years, and we’re super excited about what’s next.”
